Shower Door Installation Process
What to Expect From Start to Finish
Installing a shower door correctly is a process — not a single visit. Accuracy, timing, and preparation matter. This page explains exactly how your installation is handled from the first measurement to the final walkthrough, so there are no surprises.
Initial Measurement Visit
Every job begins with an on-site measurement appointment.
I personally come out to measure the opening using tape measures, precision levels, and laser-guided reference lines to ensure accuracy. Walls, floors, and tile are rarely perfectly square, and those small variations matter when working with glass.
During this visit, I:
-
Verify opening dimensions
-
Check plumb, level, and out-of-square conditions
-
Confirm glass type, thickness, and configuration
-
Review hardware placement and swing clearances
Once measurements are complete, I create a detailed diagram of the enclosure. This diagram is sent directly to the manufacturer — typically the same day — so fabrication can begin without delays.
Fabrication and Scheduling
Shower glass is custom-cut to order. Nothing is off-the-shelf.
Manufacturing and delivery to my warehouse usually takes 3 to 5 business days. To avoid rescheduling issues, installations are typically scheduled 5 to 7 days out, ensuring all glass and hardware have arrived and been inspected before your appointment.
If timing is critical, installations can sometimes be expedited. When possible, delivery and installation are coordinated closely in case materials arrive sooner than expected.
Installation Day Arrival
On the scheduled day and time, we arrive as planned and knock to let you know we’re there.
While my son begins setting up tools near the driveway, I come inside to:
-
Re-inspect the installation area
-
Confirm measurements against finished surfaces
-
Verify tile condition and wall structure
-
Review any last-minute questions
This second inspection ensures nothing has changed since the original measurement and prevents problems before they start.
Test Fit and Layout
Before anything is permanently installed, the shower enclosure components are dry-fit and test-positioned.
The glass and hardware are loosely set in place to:
-
Confirm proper fit
-
Verify door swing and clearances
-
Check alignment and reveal lines
Only after confirming the fit do we mark precise drill locations on the tile.
Drilling and Assembly
Tile is drilled carefully using the proper bits and techniques to prevent cracking or damage. Anchors are installed securely, followed by assembly of:
-
Frames (if applicable)
-
Hinges, clamps, or support bars
-
Wall channels or mounting hardware
Once the structure is set, the glass panels and doors are positioned, aligned, and secured.
Final Cleaning and Sealing
After installation:
-
All glass is cleaned
-
Hardware is wiped down
-
Silicone sealant is applied where required
Caulking is done last to ensure clean lines and proper adhesion.
The enclosure must not be touched for a minimum of 12 hours to allow the sealant to cure properly. This step is critical for long-term performance and leak prevention.
Walkthrough and Completion
Once the installation is complete, I will review the finished enclosure with you:
-
Operation and alignment
-
Care and maintenance guidelines
-
Any glass protection options (if applicable)
At this time, the remaining balance is collected while my son finishes the tool breakdown and cleans the work area.
We leave the space clean, secure, and ready for use once the curing period is complete.
Why This Process Matters
Shower doors demand precision. Rushing measurements, skipping test fits, or cutting corners leads to leaks, alignment issues, and premature wear.
This step-by-step process ensures:
-
Accurate fit
-
Clean installation
-
Long-term durability
-
Fewer problems down the road
It’s the difference between a shower door that simply fits and one that performs correctly for years.
